With each New Year brings New Year’s resolutions. It is the time of year we all look forward to. The idea of a clean slate and a second chance to start over and make this year better than the year before is exciting. As I look back over the last year, it is amazing how it all played out. The career changes that have taken place, the changes at home and with the church, and the people who have come into my life. In only one year my life has changed dramatically, and it is all for the better! God alone knew how the year would pan out and His plans never cease to amaze me.
I cannot help but relate the start of the New Year with our Christian walk. Each day is a new day. It is a chance to start your day with the Lord, to be open to wonderful opportunities He presents, and to grow in your faith through Him. When we are baptized into Christ we become a new person. And because of Christ’s death on the cross and through baptism we are forgiven of our sins, because of His blood that was shed on that cross. All we have to do is ask for His forgiveness, repent of our sins, and turn away from them, and then we will be made right in God’s eyes once again. The good news is that we do not have to wait until January 1st to seek His forgiveness. We can do it right now, six months from now, whenever! With God, there is no waiting to get your life right. He is the King of second chances, but we have to take that first step. God is waiting on us, not the other way around. He will always be open to hearing anything we have to say with love, patience, and unending compassion.
I wish you all a wonderful year in 2017! Give God the glory in all you do this year.
“But if we confess our sins to Him, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness.”
(1 John 1:9 NLT)
“Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for His compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.”
(Lamentations 3:22-23 NIV)
“Blessed is the people of whom this is true; blessed is the people whose God is the Lord.”
(Psalm 144:15 NIV)
